Job Description

Role Overview

This role supports Kansas City Site 4 AI, which operates four active ingredient manufacturing lines for the Crop Science business. Due to recent turnover and high activity levels, there is a backlog of action items, documentation updates, and improvement projects. The successful candidate will work with cross-functional technical and operational teams to help clear this backlog while also identifying and implementing process, reliability, and training improvements.

This position is focused on mid- to long-term initiatives rather than daily operations, providing the opportunity to contribute directly to sustainable improvements across the site. Each day brings variety, with exposure to different engineers, technical experts, and support staff. For candidates who enjoy problem-solving, collaboration, and continuous learning, this role offers meaningful challenges and impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with site technical and operational teams to resolve outstanding PHA, MOC, optimization, and process-related action items across 1–4 chemical processes.
  • Support environmental compliance through technical definition, validation, and reporting of data required for permitting and annual reporting.
  • Review, revise, and improve plant documentation , including startup/shutdown procedures, normal operations instructions, and P&IDs.
  • Define, document, and execute pressure safety design packages .
  • Partner with plant engineering to scope and plan process and reliability improvement projects .
  • Contribute to enhancements in training programs for plant operations.

Role Details

  • Location: Onsite at Kansas City, MO (local candidates only).
  • Work Schedule: 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM start; 6-month contract with possible extension (no conversion).
  • Work Environment: Manufacturing site; requires use of PPE (hard hat, steel-toe shoes, safety glasses—all provided). Dress code is casual.
  • Travel/Driving: None required.
  • Training: Limited formal training; mainly on-the-job (a couple of days).

Team & Culture

The team is a mix of long-standing members with deep site knowledge and newer colleagues who joined following organizational changes last October. The culture is collaborative, supportive, and open to new ideas. Success in this team comes from humility, curiosity, and the ability to work well across all levels of the organization.

Top 5 Must-Haves

  1. Strong communication skills (both technical and non-technical).
  2. Proven collaboration skills across functions.
  3. Solid technical expertise in chemical processes and process engineering.
  4. Curiosity and adaptability to learn new systems and approaches.
  5. Humility and an open-minded approach to teamwork.

Candidate Profile

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience: 5+ years in process measurement, manufacturing, industrial, or engineering environments.
  • Knowledge: Chemical processes, OSHA PSM/EPA RMP compliance, and risk management techniques.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communicator, collaborative, humble, approachable, and open to continuous learning.
  • Preferred: Candidates with local ties to Kansas City.
