Position Summary:

We are seeking a full-time Research Associate to support formulation development in our R&D Laboratory. This role is hands-on and lab-based, ideal for someone with a background in chemistry or environmental science and a strong interest in formulation science. You’ll work closely with formulation scientists to create and evaluate prototypes, support scale-up, and conduct product performance trials.

Arborjet's R&D team is at the forefront of developing innovative, environmentally responsible technologies for tree injection, pest control (including microbials and biostimulants), fertilization, and water management. Our formulations support soil health, plant vigor, and pest and disease management across trees, turf, vines, and shrubs. Research is conducted at our indoor greenhouses, outdoor nurseries, and in collaboration with third-party field partners across the U.S.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with formulation scientist to prepare small batch formulations and perform preliminary and complex evaluations by combining active ingredients with excipients for desired physical and chemical properties.
• Under the guidance of R&D director, conducting compatibility/stability testing and optimizing delivery systems: Adjusting particle size, solubility, and release profiles (e.g., emulsions, granules, encapsulates), solubility, suspension behavior, and compatibility testing.
• Assist in scale-up efforts for pilot and commercial production, both in-house and off-site.
• Participate in product testing and data collection in lab, greenhouse, and outdoor settings.
• Maintain meticulous records of experimental procedures, observations, and results.
• Support general lab operations: glassware washing, reagent preparation, equipment upkeep, and inventory organization.
• Identify and report issues with plant trials, lab equipment, or processes.
• Travel up to 10% for manufacturing site visits.
• Safely lift up to 25 pounds and perform physical tasks in lab and field environments.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science (with chemistry coursework), or a related scientific discipline. Ideal candidate will have some years of industrial experience.
• Solid understanding of general lab practices, safety protocols, and scientific documentation.
• Experience with formulation development techniques is a strong plus but not required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with scientists and operations personnel.
