Job Overview:

The Security Specialist I will be responsible for conducting background investigations on candidates for employment and contractors seeking access to company facilities. This role requires a high level of integrity, attention to detail, and adherence to regulatory and legal requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, critical thinking abilities, and the capability to handle sensitive information with discretion. This position is based in Richmond, Virginia, and requires local candidates or those able to commute to the location.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct background investigations on candidates for employment and contractors seeking access to company facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements for the collection and safeguarding of individual background information.
  • Interview individuals within and outside the company regarding a candidate's character and reputation.
  • Provide consultation regarding suitability for employment or access to company facilities.
  • Maintain databases to support security programs and manage access control systems.
  • Analyze individual applications and reports, ensuring all information provided is accurate, complete, and truthful.
  • Utilize various software applications, including SAP and MS Office, to perform job functions.
  • Apply knowledge and experience in dealing with security issues specific to energy companies and critical infrastructure protection.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience handling background checks and sensitive information as a security specialist.
  • Experience with background investigations on candidates for employment and contractors.
  • Ability to consistently maintain the highest standards of integrity and honesty.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex information and make well-informed decisions.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Preferred experience in the utilities field or at large-scale corporations.

Pay Range: $25 - $27

The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
