We’re hiring!
SJSU's Lurie College of Education, Department of Special Education is looking for teacher supervisors to mentor student teachers as they work in inclusive and diverse classroom settings.
Department of Special Education Mission
SJSU Lurie College of Education’s Department of Special Education prepares candidates to be effective educators, transformative leaders in the field, and lifelong learners who stand up to racism, ableism, bigotry, and prejudice in their schools and communities. To this end, we center anti-racist and anti-ableist policies and practices in our teaching, research, and service to end the systemic racism that has historically prevented full inclusion and equity for students with disabilities, including our BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) students, staff, and faculty. We practice culturally sustaining pedagogies, incorporate Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles in both coursework and fieldwork, and collaborate with local districts to promote the success of students with disabilities in inclusive settings. We seek to attain these objectives through modeling respect, inclusivity, collaboration, and consensus while prioritizing the wellness of our students, faculty, and staff. For more information on the department, please visit our website
Candidates may choose one of three pathways to complete their fieldwork requirements: Teacher Residency Program, Intern Program, or Traditional Student Teaching. San José State is a Minority-Serving Institution, and fieldwork placements are in urban, rural, and suburban schools.
Brief Description of Duties
We invite applications for a pool of part-time instructors to provide clinical supervision and seminars to special education teacher candidates engaged in student teaching and/or Intern teaching. Clinical supervision involves observations of classroom teaching (in person and on-line) and providing meaningful formative feedback after each observation, maintaining records of candidates' areas of growth and need, holding bi-weekly seminars, attending monthly supervisor meetings and professional development, and serving as liaison between the university and school sites.
